Members of Flowering Dharma, along with a large number of dedicated volunteers, observed World Environment Day by organizing a comprehensive cleanliness drive at the campus of the International Institute for Culture and Ethics (IICE) in Yarlok, Chuchot Gongma.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Founding Director Mr. Tashi Namgyal and Director Geshe Samdub (Tsewang Sangrup), who joined members and volunteers in cleaning the institute premises and surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness, community participation, and responsible waste management in the ecologically sensitive region of Ladakh.

Volunteers from different backgrounds enthusiastically participated in the campaign, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and civic responsibility. Their active involvement significantly contributed to the success of the cleanliness drive and highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
During the event, participants removed litter, collected waste materials, and cleaned various sections of the campus. The activity served as both a practical effort to improve the local environment and an educational opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings.

Addressing the gathering, Founding Director Mr. Tashi Namgyal emphasized the need to preserve and protect the environment, especially in Ladakh, where the fragile ecosystem is increasingly threatened by climate change, pollution, and unsustainable human activities. He stressed that every individual has a role to play in safeguarding nature and ensuring a healthy environment for future generations.
“Environmental conservation is a shared responsibility. Through awareness, community participation, and sustainable practices, we can protect the natural beauty and ecological balance of Ladakh,” he said.
Director Geshe Samdub highlighted the close relationship between environmental well-being, cultural values, and human happiness. He spoke about the urgent need for environmental consciousness in everyday life and encouraged participants to become ambassadors of environmental protection within their communities.
He further noted that Ladakh’s unique and fragile landscape requires special care and collective efforts to ensure its preservation. He called upon citizens, institutions, and youth to work together towards building a cleaner and greener future.
On the occasion, the leadership of the International Institute for Culture and Ethics announced that the institute will continue to undertake programmes and initiatives focusing on environmental conservation, sustainability, ecological awareness, and community engagement in the future. The institute plans to collaborate with local communities, volunteers, and educational institutions to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development across the region.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by members and volunteers to continue supporting environmental initiatives and to actively contribute towards preserving Ladakh’s natural environment. Participants expressed their appreciation for the meaningful event, which successfully combined environmental action, public awareness, and community service.
The World Environment Day observance served as a powerful reminder that protecting the environment requires the active participation of all sections of society. Through the combined efforts of organizations, volunteers, and local communities, meaningful progress can be achieved in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for Ladakh.
