After a year of briefing and introducing “The Seed of Compassion” an illustrated book for young children written by HH The 14th Dalai Lama and published by Penguin to Shri RK Mathur Ji, , Hon’ble firts Lt. Governor of UT Ladakh, the book was formally launched in Ladakh on 3rd October 2021 by Shri. Tsering Angchuk ,Hon’ble Deputy Chairman and Executive Councilor- Education, LAHDC-Leh, in an book drive event organized by Flowering Dharma and Lobjong, a youth initiative with support of Pethub Khangtsen Education Society at the Leh-main bazar. Pethub Khangtsen Education Society printed and donated 20000 copies of the book for free distribution in schools. Though this book, for the first time ever, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate His Holiness the Dalai Lama is addressing children directly and sharing lessons of peace and compassion, through stories of his own childhood. During the occasion, Sh Tsetan Dorjee, CEO, Education was also present.
As a part of the book drive initiative undertaken by Lobjong, their members collected books prior to the event and sold at minimal rates and the Seed of Compassion was distributed freely during the event. The funds gathered through this drive is being solely utilized for charity and 100% of the raised amount is being donated to an old age home. Both tourists and locals appreciated this effort by the youths and showed their support with wise words of encouragement and generous donations.
During the launch of the book, members of Flowering Dharma shared with the gathering and Shri. Tsering Angchuk, Hon’ble guest, the importance of our culture, a culture that is driven by the idea of kindness and compassion, and showed appreciation towards the young members of Lobjong and assured support to them for their future endeavors too. Addressing to the gathering, Shri. Tsering Angchuk, shared about the initiatives the LAHDC is taking form their end in the field of education in Leh including stressing on implementation of mother tongue as the medium of teaching till the middle school level, opening of libraries, updating the curriculum amongst other things. He also assured his support to any such initiatives in the future too. At the end of the event Hon’ble Guest spent some time with the team and shared his wise words of wisdom.
Pethub Khangtsen Education Society is committed to distribute copies of the book in all the schools for free of charge. Lobjong and Flowering Dhara are extremely grateful for donation of 20000 copies of the book.
